This is one of Europe's most desirable cities and a place everyone should visit at least once in a lifetime. Save this ready-made 4-day itinerary to experience the true magic of Portugal's capital.

Find out where you should go in Lisbon in the RBC-Ukraine article below.

Spending a few days in Portugal's capital means immersing yourself in the atmosphere of a bright, vibrant, and incredibly charming city. With its cobblestone streets, azulejo-tiled facades, yellow trams climbing steep hills, and the soulful sounds of fado echoing through narrow alleys, Lisbon embraces a lifestyle unlike anywhere else in Europe.

Located on the banks of the Tagus River and bathed in sunshine for most of the year, the city captivates travelers with both its relaxed atmosphere and its rich cultural heritage.

Day 1: Traditional flavors and the soul of the old city

Breakfast like a local

Start your morning the way locals do. Order a bica (a short, strong espresso) with a still-warm pastel de nata, a galão (the Portuguese version of a latte), or a tosta mista (a local ham-and-cheese toast). Bakery displays are also filled with bolas de Berlim — fluffy doughnuts generously filled with cream.

Yellow trams and historic neighborhoods

Explore the city aboard its iconic tram. These historic yellow trams have traveled through narrow streets lined with colorful facades for decades. For lunch, head to the Rossio district, where traditional restaurants serve classic Portuguese dishes, from grilled sardines and fresh sea bream to simple seafood masterpieces.

The historic heart of the city

In the afternoon, lose yourself in the cobblestone labyrinths of ancient neighborhoods such as Mouraria and Alfama. Laundry hanging from windows, steep stairways, and weathered facades reveal the city's true character. In the evening, be sure to visit a fado house to hear the melancholic songs about love and the sea.

Day 2: From ocean breezes to nightlife

Escape to the coast

After exploring Lisbon's hills, head to the coastal town of Cascais, easily reached by train from Cais do Sodré station. The journey along the Tagus offers stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean. Thanks to the mild climate, it is the perfect place to combine a city break with beach relaxation or surfing.

The city's nightlife

Return to Lisbon in the evening and switch gears in the Bairro Alto district. Behind its modest facades lies an incredible mix of bars, restaurants, and rooftop venues where locals gather after sunset.

Day 3: Literature, shopping, and the Age of Discovery

A cultural morning

Start the day at the Fernando Pessoa House Museum, dedicated to one of Portugal's most important literary figures, where the writer spent the last 15 years of his life. Then head to Avenida da Liberdade, an elegant boulevard reminiscent of Paris, home to luxury boutiques and the iconic JNcQUOI restaurant.

The glory of the explorers

The second half of the day belongs to the Belém district. Here you will find the main landmarks of Portugal's Age of Discovery. Visit the magnificent Jerónimos Monastery and the iconic Belém Tower. Both UNESCO World Heritage Sites are renowned for their unique Manueline architecture.

A legendary dessert

Nearby is the famous Pastéis de Belém bakery, which has preserved the secret recipe of its legendary pastries since the 19th century. Enjoying them warm and sprinkled with cinnamon is an essential Lisbon ritual.

Day 4: Contemporary art and panoramic views

A creative hub

Spend the day beneath the arches of the 25 de Abril Bridge, where LX Factory is located. This former industrial area has been transformed into an open-air creative hub filled with trendy cafés, bookstores, and street art-covered walls.

The magic of sunset

To end your trip on a perfect note, watch the sunset from one of Lisbon's scenic viewpoints, known as miradouros. The hugely popular Miradouro da Senhora do Monte offers the city's highest panoramic view, overlooking terracotta rooftops, the river, and the bridge. Meanwhile, the romantic Miradouro de Santa Luzia enchants visitors with its flower-covered terrace and views of Alfama's winding streets.
