Zaluzhnyi to work as ambassador to Britain in coming weeks
Valerii Zaluzhnyi, former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, General, is expected to start work as ambassador to the UK in the coming weeks, states Mykhailo Podolyak, Advisor to the Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine.
"As I understand it, everything has already been officially clarified there, so he will be the official ambassador," he said.
Podolyak noted that London has already approved Zaluzhnyi's candidacy for the post of Ukrainian ambassador.
He also added that procedural processes are currently underway, including through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and this issue has been weeks in the making.
"I no longer see any politicization whatsoever around Mr. Zaluzhnyi's name," Podolyak remarked.
Zaluzhnyi's resignation as Chief of the General Staff and questions regarding the ambassadorial position
On February 8, the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valerii Zaluzhnyi resigned. He was replaced by Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, appointed by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Also, on February 9, the head of state awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine to former Chief Zaluzhnyi and the Chief of the General Staff of the Ministry of Defense, Kyrylo Budanov.
It later became known that President Zelenskyy had approved Zaluzhnyi's candidacy for the position of ambassador to Britain.
