Flights banned over King Charles III’s residence after Zelenskyy’s visit

Flights were banned over King Charles III’s residence in Sandringham (Norfolk county). This happened a week after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s visit in March. The reason for this ban has only now become known, according to Sky News.
What happened in March
The visit of Volodymyr Zelenskyy to King Charles III took place on March 2, 2025. He arrived at the Sandringham residence after his visit to the USA.
During the Ukrainian president’s stay at the estate, the security service detected several drones over the building. One of them was operated by a man who was in a car nearby. Another was operated by a photographer. Several other drones could not be identified.
The situation raised concerns about a potential threat to the safety of the king, members of the royal family, and high-ranking guests.

What measures were taken
UK Transport Minister Heidi Alexander imposed a no-fly zone over Sandringham starting from March 10—at the request of the security service. According to the order, flights below 600 meters (200 feet) over the estate are now prohibited.
Exceptions apply only to royal, emergency flights, and aircraft for official visits. The ban will be in effect for a year.
The drone incident caused concern, as in modern conflicts, drones are often used for reconnaissance and attacks.
Given the visit of President Zelenskyy, who is a key figure in the war against Russia, there are versions suggesting possible espionage or threats from hostile agents.
