Democrats on the US House Judiciary Committee are calling for the appointment of a special counsel to investigate President Donald Trump’s ties to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, according to The Hill.

What the report says

The report was released on Monday, October 26. According to Democrats, 11 women linked Trump to Epstein’s crimes. Five of them, the document states, directly accused Trump of rape or sexual assault in Epstein’s presence or in his company.

Democrats believe the special counsel should investigate not only Trump’s possible involvement but also the actions of all of Epstein’s accomplices and hold them criminally accountable.

Allegations against the Justice Department

The report’s authors also accuse Attorney General Todd Blanche of concealing evidence against the president.

"Instead of pursuing justice for Epstein’s survivors, former Attorney General Pam Bondi and Attorney General Blanche have been running DOJ like a private legal defense firm for their former client," the report states. Blanche was Trump’s personal lawyer before his appointment.

"Donald Trump says he knew Jeffrey Epstein 'just like everybody in Palm Beach knew him.' Not exactly. Evidence involving 11 women tells a completely different and far more damning story," said Jamie Raskin, the committee’s top Democrat.

What the White House says

Trump denies any involvement in Epstein’s crimes. He maintains that he was not on friendly terms with Epstein, never visited his island, and never flew on his plane.

White House spokesperson Lauren Bis called the allegations false. "This 'report' is just a desperate attempt by deranged Democrats to distract Americans from the growing support for Republicans," she said. According to Bis, Trump had previously kicked Epstein out of his Mar-a-Lago club because he was a “creep.”

In February, Bondi stressed during a hearing before the same committee that there was no evidence that Trump had committed a crime.

Trump’s name has appeared repeatedly in the Epstein case files. Among other things, unsealed US Justice Department documents stated that Trump met a 14-year-old girl at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.

The congressional investigation also involves other prominent figures. In June, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates told the House committee that Epstein had blackmailed him by threatening to disclose information about his extramarital affairs.
