The first military personnel from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), sent to assist the enemy in the Kursk region, have likely already become targets for Ukrainian fighters, according to Andrii Kovalenko, head of the National Security and Defence Council's Center for Countering Disinformation (CDC).

According to Kovalenko, the first North Korean fighters have already come under fire. Details regarding their fate have not been clarified.

North Korea sends troops to Ukraine

Recently, it became known that North Korea has sent its servicemen to assist Russia in its war against Ukraine. According to Russian President Vladimir Putin, this decision is part of the so-called "strategic partnership" between Russia and North Korea.

Later, Kyrylo Budanov, head of the Defense Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense, warned that North Korean troops could join the fighting against Ukraine as early as November.

According to Defense Intelligence data, Russia has equipped the North Korean military with:

  • 60 mm mortars
  • AK-12 assault rifles
  • RPK/PKM machine guns
  • SVD/SVCh sniper rifles
  • Phoenix anti-tank guided missiles and RPG-7s.

According to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, the US has observed around 8,000 North Korean soldiers in the Kursk region.
