Maps of the area indicate that the fire is occurring at a munitions depot, which analysts say explains the ongoing powerful detonations.
Details of the explosions at the airfield
On the night of August 9, explosions were reported at the military airfield near Lipetsk. Russian officials reported an attack that ignited a massive fire at the airfield.
The local department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation confirmed the fire at the military airfield, assigning it a level 3 severity rating. However, the cause of the fire was not disclosed.
