Fire breaks out in Zheleznogorsk, Kursk region, Russians report drone attack
On the evening of October 29, a fire broke out in the city of Zheleznogorsk in Russia's Kursk region. Residents are reporting a drone attack, according to Russian Telegram channels.
At 10:39 p.m., Kursk region governor Alexei Smirnov stated that there was a threat of drone attacks.
"Kursk region: danger of a drone attack. Stay vigilant! Air defense forces and assets are on standby to repel a possible attack," he reported.
Later, starting around 10:54 p.m., local Telegram channels in Zheleznogorsk, followed by national channels, began disseminating footage of the fire. According to residents, the blaze is linked to drone attacks. Some Telegram channels report that, based on preliminary information, the fire is due to the debris of a drone. Others clarify that a fire broke out in the yard of a residential building.
"Preliminary reports indicate that the facade of a high-rise building, a playground, and several cars have been damaged. The evacuation of residents from nearby buildings is being discussed," Telegram channel Mash reported.
The Shot channel added that several cars parked in the yard of one of the buildings were also damaged. They noted that the drone fell near a street in the area of the Eiffel Tower - a local landmark.
Subsequently, local channels reporting on the debris began referencing an unidentified source (as the photos were cropped), warning residents not to approach the remains of the drone.
"Do not approach or touch them! This could be dangerous for your life! There may be further detonation on the ground with explosive elements," the message stated.
On the same day, Tuesday, October 29, a drone attacked a special forces university in Chechnya, resulting in a fire.
Andrii Kovalенко, head of the Center for Counteracting Disinformation (CCD) under the National Security and Defense Council, stated that this would be a familiar event for Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov.
