Finland will verify whether weapons purchased by NATO countries for the Ukrainian army are actually reaching Ukraine, Defense Minister Antti Häkkänen said in an interview with Euronews.
Häkkänen noted that Finland will check whether Washington is complying with contracts signed with European NATO countries that bought weapons for Ukraine from US military contractors.
"What has been promised to Ukraine has to go to Ukraine," he emphasized.
This issue arose after The Washington Post reported that the Pentagon is considering redirecting critical military equipment originally intended for the Ukrainian armed forces to the war in Iran.
"Every time we are assessing how the money is being spent, and we are trusting that the mechanism is working. If there are problems of course, then we have to reassess that," said the Finnish defense minister.
Rumors about US weapons for Ukraine
Earlier, The Washington Post, citing sources, reported that Pentagon officials are considering sending weapons intended for Ukraine to the Middle East.
Commenting on this information, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stressed that the delivery of American weapons to Ukraine, purchased by Alliance countries from the US under the PURL program, continues.
He noted that, through this program, Ukraine is receiving, among other things, missiles for the Patriot air defense systems.
Meanwhile, US Senator Marco Rubio said the US could redirect weapons originally intended for Ukraine to conduct operations in the Middle East.
