Ukraine is in a better military position than open sources report, especially in the battles in eastern Ukraine and the Kursk region, stated Finnish President Alexander Stubb in an interview with Yle.

Stubb emphasized that his assessment of the situation on the front lines is based on discussions with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his team.

"Today, we heard from President Zelenskyy about the situation on the eastern front and in Kursk. It's better than what open sources claim," he pointed out.

The Finnish President did not disclose what exactly he meant.

"I trust President Zelenskyy's assessment more than President Putin's," Stubb added.

Rumours about the encirclement of Ukrainian soldiers

Recently, Russia claimed that Ukrainian soldiers in the Kursk region were surrounded. Those who refuse to surrender would be killed.

This information was trusted by US President Donald Trump, who, prior to his meeting with Putin, stated that he aimed to save Ukrainian soldiers who were essentially surrounded."

The New York Times reported that Ukrainian forces have almost entirely withdrawn from the Kursk region.

However, the Ukrainian General Staff stated that fighting continues in the area, and Ukrainian defenders still control parts of enemy territory.
