Finnish President Alexander Stubb suggested that US President Donald Trump set a deadline for a ceasefire in Ukraine, informs Yle.

During a conversation between the two leaders, the President of Finland emphasized to Trump the need to establish a clear date for a ceasefire in Ukraine.

He stated that setting a specific deadline is crucial for achieving peace. He proposed April 20 as the optimal time to take this step.

According to Stubb, this date would be a good moment for a complete ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine with no conditions attached.

"Why 20 April? Because we need a deadline, because it's Easter, and because President Donald Trump will then have been in office for three months," said the President of Finland.

Russia-Ukraine ceasefire

Notably, April 20 has been mentioned before as a potential day for a complete ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia. Earlier, Bloomberg reported that the US intends to reach a ceasefire agreement between Russia and Ukraine by April 20.

However, the White House did not rule out the possibility of the deadline being pushed back.

Ukraine responded to such optimistic views from the US side. Specifically, international expert Maksym Nesvitailov commented to RBC-Ukraine, noting that by April 20, President Trump could theoretically achieve a temporary ceasefire in Ukraine.

However, in his opinion, ensuring lasting peace will require much more time.

The Office of the President of Ukraine also evaluated the feasibility of this deadline.
