Finland has sent 22 aid packages to Ukraine and won't stop there - President Niinistö
President Sauli Niinistö, who is leaving his position, has announced that Finland has delivered 22 aid packages to Ukraine and will not limit its support to this, according to Yle.
"We're increasing aid. Primarily military aid of course. This especially concerns ammunition and air defense assets. Everyone agreed that we need to act as we did at the beginning of 2022 when decisions were made in a timely and very fast manner," Niinistö said.
The President of Finland participated in a conference of European leaders in Paris at the initiative of French President Emmanuel Macron. According to Niinistö, the conference proved to be productive.
Macron raised the issue of the possibility of sending European troops to Ukraine, stating that nothing should be excluded. However, a consensus on this issue has not yet been reached. Meanwhile, according to Macron, long-range missiles will be provided to the Ukrainian army.
Presidential elections in Finland
The winner of the presidential elections in Finland, Alexander Stubb, will officially take office on March 1 and replace Niinistö.
The head of the Finnish state bears direct responsibility for the country's foreign and security policy, being the commander-in-chief of the armed forces.
Regarding the issue of Ukraine, Stubb has said that he does not agree that Ukraine should give up any part of its territory for peace with Russia. Also, the future President of Finland supports Ukraine's accession to the EU and promised to actively support this process.
