Former Prime Minister Alexander Stubb won the presidential election in Finland. He beat former Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto in the second round, reports Yle.

With 99.8% of the votes counted, Stubb received the support of 51.6% of voters, while his opponent was supported by 48.4%.

Stubb will be sworn in as president of Finland on March 1, 2024.

Who is Stubb and what is his position on Ukraine

In 2014-2015, Stubb was the Prime Minister of Finland, and in 2015-2016, he was the Minister of Finance. Before becoming Prime Minister, Stubb also headed the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Trade, was a member of the Finnish Parliament and the European Parliament, and was Minister of Foreign Affairs.

As for Ukraine, Stubb has stated that he does not agree that Ukraine should give up at least part of its land for peace with Russia. The future president of Finland also supports Ukraine's accession to the EU and promised to actively promote this process.
