Fighting continues despite Russian ceasefire: Ukrainian military reports assaults across front

Fighting continues on the front in Ukraine despite statements by the Russian Federation about the beginning of the so-called ceasefire. Therefore, it is impossible to speak of a ceasefire on the line of contact, the spokesperson of the Khortytsia operational-strategic group, Viktor Trehubov, states.
"The enemy is less active, in some directions there were no combat clashes in the morning, but there were active combat clashes in a number of directions. Therefore, we are not discussing any kind of ceasefire," he said.
According to the spokesperson, there were assault actions by the occupiers since midnight in the Lyman, Vovchansk, and Kramatorsk directions, in particular in Chasiv Yar, as well as in the area of Toretsk, the Pokrovsk and Novopavlivka directions.
"Therefore, to speak of a ceasefire that they (the Russians – ed.) announced – it is not noticeable on the front," added Trehubov.
Situation near Pokrovsk
As noted by the spokesperson of the OSGT Khortytsia, Russian troops are trying to conduct assault actions to the west and east of the city of Pokrovsk, as well as to the south of the city.
Over the past day, there were 65 combat clashes in the Pokrovsk direction. But, according to Trehubov, this is less than on some days. Currently, the Pokrovsk direction is the most intense on the entire front line.
"The Russians, in principle, do not cease attempts to improve their tactical position around the city or to cross the Pokrovsk-Kostiantynivka road in order to complicate the connection between these two cities, or to reach the road toward Pavlohrad, or somehow to assist the troops who are trying to reach the border of the Dnipropetrovsk region in the Novopavlivka direction, which they are failing to do. And, as they had planned by May 9, they will not succeed," the spokesperson noted.
Ceasefire of the Russian Federation on May 9
Let us recall that earlier, the Kremlin announced a so-called ceasefire for three days – from May 8 to 10. Today at midnight, Russian media stated that the "ceasefire" began to take effect.
However, Russia violated its promises and intensified strikes on the Sumy region. As reported by the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as of 8:00 a.m., no missiles or attack drones were detected in the airspace of Ukraine. But the Russians struck the Sumy region with guided aerial bombs; there is one casualty and one injured.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine is ready, as before, to cease fire – but for 30 days, not three.
