Russian forces attacked Kharkiv again on Monday morning, 23 February, with a series of explosions reported in the city, according to Kharkiv mayor Ihor Terekhov.

According to local media, explosions were heard at least twice, at 06:28 and 06:33 AM Kyiv time. Social media reports said drones were detected near the city, followed by a warning about fast-moving aerial targets.

Between the blasts, Kharkiv mayor Ihor Terekhov reported a missile strike, saying the Kholodnohirskyi district was under attack and that the consequences were being clarified.

At the time of the explosions, Ukraine’s air force had not issued information about a strike threat to Kharkiv or the region.

At 06:55 AM Kyiv time, another series of explosions was reported in the city amid the missile attack. Terekhov later said the Osnovianskyi district had also been hit.

At 07:05 AM Kyiv time, according to regional governor Oleh Syniehubov, a 55-year-old man was injured in the attack and received medical assistance.

Air raid alerts

As of 06:41 AM Kyiv time, air raid alerts remained in place in the Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Donetsk regions.

Strikes of Kharkiv

Russian forces regularly strike Kharkiv, damaging various infrastructure across the city.

For example, on 20 February, Russian troops hit the city’s Slobidskyi district with an Iskander-M missile. The strike occurred near residential high-rise buildings, damaging seven apartment blocks and an administrative building.

A gas leak was also reported at the scene, and two cars caught fire.

Earlier, on 9 February, Russian forces carried out a drone strike on the Shevchenkivskyi district, damaging several vehicles and windows in a residential building.
