In the Leningrad region of Russia, a gas terminal caught fire, and eyewitnesses reported hearing two explosions before the fire, according to the Telegram channels Mash and the governor of the Leningrad region, Alexander Drozdenko.

In the vicinity of the oil terminal of the Sea Commercial Port in the town of Ust-Luga in the Leningrad region, an explosion occurred. According to sources, approximately 150 people were evacuated from the facility.

Residents of nearby cities, located close to the port, reported hearing the sounds of drones flying.

Governor of the Leningrad region Alexander Drozdenko stated that there are no casualties as a result of the incident.

"There are no casualties as a result of the fire at the terminal of the Novotek company in the Ust-Luga port. Personnel evacuation has been carried out. The forces and means of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and the Leningrad region Fire Service are involved in extinguishing the fire," reported the governor.

The Russian Telegram channel Fontanka reports that two drones were detected.

"The air defense forces shortly before the fire in Ust-Luga detected two UAVs flying towards Petersburg. During their approach to the city, they changed course and headed towards the Kingiseppsky district of the Leningrad region. Around 3:20, they attacked the Novatek gas storage facility," reported on the Telegram channel.

Novatek company

The company is one of the largest producers of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in the world. It owns and operates two LNG production plants in the Yamalo-Nenets autonomous district: Yamal LNG and Arctic LNG-2.

It has proven gas reserves of 1.7 trillion cubic meters, which constitute approximately 10% of the world's reserves.

Novatek is also involved in the processing and sale of liquid hydrocarbons and owns and operates a gas condensate processing plant in the city of Torzhok, Tver region - Nortgaz.

Novatek plays a significant role in the extraction of natural gas in Russia and is one of the largest exporters of Russian LNG.
