Late on July 21, explosions were heard in Russia’s Rostov region, with locals reporting an attack by unidentified drones, according to Russian channels.

The reports claim that drones are targeting the Millerovo military airbase. Footage shared on social media shows flashes and a fire breaking out near the site following the strikes.

Earlier, Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed its forces had allegedly shot down 12 drones.

The Millerovo airbase is a strategic military facility in Russia’s Rostov region. It serves as a base for front-line aviation that supports Russian infantry operations in eastern and southern Ukraine.

This is not the first strike on the airfield. On December 23, 2024, the base was also reportedly targeted, with Russian Su-25 attack aircraft believed to be the intended targets.

Earlier this year, Russia ramped up security at the airbase. Satellite images showed new aircraft shelters and air defense systems installed at the site.
