Explosions heard in several cities of Rostov region due to drone attack
Unknown drones were detected in Russia's Rostov region during the night of November 25-26, triggering the activation of air defense systems. Explosions were heard in several areas of the region, according to the Telegram channel of the acting governor of Rostov, Yury Slyusar, and local public sources.
According to a Russian official, several drones were reportedly shot down in the Rostov region. This occurred near Novoshakhtinsk, Taganrog, Kamensk, and Zernograd.
"Since midnight, air defense systems in the Rostov region have been repelling an aerial attack by the enemy. So far, four drones have been destroyed: near Novoshakhtinsk, Taganrog, Kamensk, and Zernograd," the regional government representative reported.
He also claimed that there were no casualties or damage on the ground and that the air defense operations continued.
Meanwhile, Rostov-based Telegram channels reported loud explosions in these cities.
Additionally, there are reports online that, in addition to Taganrog, Novoshakhtinsk, Kamensk, and Zernograd, explosions were also heard in the village of Novobessergenevka (in the Neklinovsky district, south of Taganrog).
Near Taganrog, there are two military airfields - Taganrog-Central (to the north of the city) and Taganrog Yuzhny (near the village of Novobessergenevka).
Explosions in Taganrog
Explosions in Taganrog, Rostov region, allegedly due to aerial attacks, have occurred multiple times before.
For instance, in March, during a drone attack on Taganrog, reports emerged about damage to an aircraft factory. This plant is involved in the construction and repair of military transport aircraft of various types, including the Il-76, A-50, Il-78, and others, and previously produced strategic bombers such as the Tu-95, Tu-142, and others.
On December 16, 2023, an explosion occurred in the northern part of Taganrog, after which several helicopters were deployed to the area.
Also, on July 28 of the previous year, a powerful explosion took place in central Taganrog, near a cafe. About 15 people were injured as a result of the blast. Russian media reported that the potential site of the missile strike was located approximately 10 kilometers from the airbase. The Russian Ministry of Defense blamed Ukraine for the explosion. Following that, a series of explosions occurred in the Azov district of Rostov region.
