Explosion details available
Police in Ștefan Vodă received a report of a powerful explosion near the settlement of Crocmaz at around 1:20 p.m. A vegetation fire broke out after the explosion.
Preliminary information indicates that fragments of a combat drone were found at the scene. Police determined that no one was injured as a result of the object crashing and the subsequent fire.
All relevant emergency units were dispatched to the scene to establish the circumstances and cause of the explosion and put out the fire. Explosives and technical examination specialists from the police are also heading there.
Law enforcement officials will provide more detailed information after a visual inspection and later, following a specialized examination.
As previously reported, this is not the first time drone debris linked to Russian attacks on Ukraine has been found on Moldovan territory. On August 5 alone, fragments of a Shahed drone were found in the Cahul district. According to authorities, the drone was carrying explosives.
Moldovan authorities have previously acknowledged that they do not have radars capable of detecting such drones because of their small radar cross-section.
