Explosion reported on bridge between Canada and U.S.: FBI initiates investigation
An explosion occurred at the border between Canada and the United States of America. It happened on the Rainbow Bridge near Niagara Falls, report CNN and Fox News.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation has initiated an investigation into the incident in coordination with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.
"As this situation is very fluid, that's all we can say at this time," clarified the FBI.
Mayor of Niagara Falls Jim Diodati stated that, according to preliminary information, a vehicle exploded while attempting to enter the American side of the border.
Subsequently, the Rainbow Bridge was closed.
Possible act of terrorism
Unnamed sources from Fox News stated that the vehicle attempted to breach the border services building and contained explosive materials.
According to the report, two individuals inside the vehicle were killed in the incident. Another border services employee was injured. As a result, all government buildings in the area were evacuated.
Sources from Fox News added that the explosion might have been an attempted act of terrorism.
Following the incident, international border crossings between Canada and Western New York were closed.
Recall that earlier, it was reported that an explosion occurred at a chemical plant in the U.S. state of Texas on November 8, resulting in a significant fire.
