Explosion near Zhytomyr: over 20 injured, including children

The number of people injured in the explosion near Zhytomyr on the evening of Wednesday, July 2, has risen to 24, including four children, according to Vitalii Bunechko, head of the Zhytomyr Regional Military Administration.
Bunechko clarified that the explosion did not occur at a gas station, but at an industrial facility. According to him, two people have been confirmed dead. The body of one victim has already been recovered, while rescue workers are still searching for the other.
"The individuals who died were at the facility at the time of the explosion," Bunechko stated.
The number of injured has risen to 24, including four children.
"Many of the injured were at home at the time. Of the 24 people taken to medical facilities, four are children. We are also seeing people coming in on their own, so that additional information will be provided later," said the head of the regional administration.
He added that around 25 houses were destroyed, and the number of damaged buildings will be confirmed later, as inspections of all properties are still underway.
Explosion near Zhytomyr
Around 6:00 PM Kyiv time on Wednesday, July 2, a massive explosion occurred along the Kyiv-Chop highway near the city of Zhytomyr. Initial reports suggested the blast happened at a gas station, but local authorities later clarified that it occurred at two industrial facilities located near the station.
It has also been reported that three power lines were damaged as a result of the explosion.
