Execution of Ukrainian POWs in Donetsk region: What is known
Russian military personnel executed two Ukrainian soldiers near Selydove, the Donetsk region, according to the Office of the Prosecutor General.
According to the prosecutor's office, this occurred on October 18, 2024, at 02:38 PM Kyiv time. At that time, Russian soldiers captured two Ukrainian servicemen in the Pokrovsk district.
The Russian soldiers, who stormed a tree plantation near the city of Selydove, forced the unarmed prisoners of war to lie face down. They held them in this position, pressing them to the ground with their feet, and after some time, shot them at close range with automatic weapons.
"The killing of prisoners of war is a serious violation of the Geneva Conventions and is classified as a grave international crime," the prosecutor's office reminded.
Largest mass execution of prisoners of war
Recently, a video surfaced online showing Russian soldiers executing 16 Ukrainian prisoners of war simultaneously.
The prosecutor's office later reported that this occurred in the Pokrovsk direction. Attorney General Andrii Kostin noted that this is the largest execution since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
We previously reported that Ukraine has established new details regarding the execution.
