Ex-US air force worker sentenced for leaking Ukraine war secrets

In the United States, former Air Force civilian employee David Slater was sentenced to six years in prison. He had passed on classified information about the war between Russia and Ukraine to a woman on a dating website who claimed to be Ukrainian, according to ABC News.
According to the media outlet, on October 8, a district court in Lincoln sentenced David Slater to 70 months in prison, a $25,000 fine, and one year of supervised release upon his release from prison.
In July, Slater pleaded guilty to disclosing classified national defense information, after which two other charges were dropped.
A retired lieutenant colonel who, after service, worked as a civilian employee at the US Strategic Command at Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska was detained in 2024.
Despite retiring from the army in 2020, he retained access to classified data and continued to attend closed briefings on the Russia-Ukraine war. According to investigators, from August 2021 to April 2022, Slater shared the obtained information through a dating site with a person who posed as a Ukrainian woman.
Among the leaked data was information about military targets and the capabilities of Russian forces involved in the invasion of Ukraine.
