Former Chief Justice of Nepal Sushila Karki has agreed to lead the country's interim cabinet. Earlier, protesters had already mentioned her name among other possible candidates, the Nepalese outlet Khabarhub reported.

It is noted that the main driving force of the protests in the country, the Gen-Z youth movement, proposed forming an interim civilian government headed by former Supreme Court Chief Justice Sushila Karki after internal discussions and debates.

The proposal was passed to the Chief of Staff of the Nepalese Army, Ashok Raj Sigdel. According to him, the army was not against the candidacy and began its own negotiations with Karki. The former Chief Justice also has strong support among the participants of the protests.

In addition to Karki, other candidates were considered, including the mayors of the Nepalese city of Dharan and the country's capital, Kathmandu. Royalist and businessman Prasai was also offered to lead the government, but he refused.

Protests in Nepal

The demonstrations began after the blocking of social networks and turned into a nationwide uprising against corruption and chaos in the country. Security forces were unable to stop the protesters, and the Nepalese army also did not intervene.

According to the media, in just one day the number of dead exceeded 20 people, with the total number of victims reaching 24. Among the attacked sites were the residence of the Prime Minister, the building of the Presidential Administration, and other key state institutions.

The situation in the country remains critical: the state apparatus is effectively paralyzed, protesters control a significant part of the capital, and society is gripped by fear due to fires, riots, and attacks.
