On the night of February 12, unidentified attackers struck an arsenal belonging to the Main Missile and Artillery Directorate of the Russian army in the Volgograd region, according to Volgograd region governor Andrey Bocharov and monitoring channels.
As a result of the incident, a large-scale fire and detonations occurred, forcing authorities to organize the evacuation of residents. The fire is still ongoing, and the threat to the local population remains.
Strike on the arsenal
According to Russian sources, the target of attack by unidentified persons was an arsenal used for storage and modernization of missile and artillery weapons near the settlement of Kotluban.
According to monitoring channels, residents reported powerful explosions and a major fire that spread across the territory of the military facility. Activity of air defense systems was also heard.
Evacuation of the population
Russian governor emphasized that evacuation is being carried out "to ensure the safety of the civilian population from the risk of detonations during firefighting." Residents of the settlement are being warned about possible danger and urged to follow precautionary measures.
Response of Russian services
According to the governor, Russian air defense systems allegedly repelled a missile attack, and units of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and the Ministry of Defense of Russia were involved in firefighting. However, reports continue about large-scale destruction at the depot and the risk of further detonations.
Russia supports full-scale military operations against Ukraine largely due to significant assistance from one external partner, which allows the Kremlin to compensate internal losses and maintain operational activity on the front line.
It is also noted that the draft of the new constitution of Kazakhstan plans to change wording defining the status of the Russian language: instead of being used on an equal basis with Kazakh, it is proposed to define it as a language used alongside Kazakh.
