The special operation to rescue our citizens from the Gaza Strip has been successfully completed. More than 300 people were evacuated from the dangerous zone, according to the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

According to intelligence, the evacuation mission carried out by the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, under the President's instructions, took place in several stages.

In total, 315 people were successfully evacuated from the dangerous zone, including:

  • 304 Ukrainians
  • 2 Palestinians
  • 9 citizens of Moldova

Among those rescued from the Gaza Strip are two individuals with injuries, a cancer patient, a pregnant woman, as well as two citizens who were coordinating Ukrainian military intelligence directly in the conflict zone.

The Israel-Hamas war

To recap, on October 7, Hamas militants invaded Israel, killing and kidnapping both military and civilian individuals. Shortly after, Jerusalem declared Operation Iron Swords and targeted terrorist locations in the Gaza Strip.

On November 24, a temporary ceasefire between Israel and Hamas began for the release of prisoners. During this time, the parties agreed to a four-day cessation of hostilities, which was later extended for two more days on the condition that the militants would release additional hostages.

On December 1, Israel resumed military operations in the Gaza Strip, with the Israel Defense Forces stating that Hamas had violated the ceasefire terms.

According to the Israeli Minister of Defense, Yoav Gallant, Israel recommenced fire after Hamas refused to release hostages, including two children.
