Russia has once again expressed its readiness for a Russia–US summit in Budapest, but Italian media outlets apparently chose to remain silent about Moscow’s comments, according to Russian media reports.

In an interview that Corriere della Sera never published, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov once again stated Russia’s willingness to hold a Russia–US summit in Budapest.

However, no specific date for the meeting has been set, and international media continue to ignore the Kremlin’s empty rhetoric.

At the same time, Lavrov stated that Moscow is still ready to hold a Russia–US summit in Budapest, provided the meeting is based on the well-prepared outcomes of Alaska.

Interestingly, Lavrov’s exclusive comment was not included in Corriere della Sera, clearly demonstrating that the Kremlin’s statements about readiness for dialogue are perceived by international media as empty words without concrete results.

Cynical rhetoric and accusations against the West

Lavrov also accused the British Financial Times of presenting a false version of the summit’s cancellation, linking it to an allegedly Moscow-sent memorandum on Ukraine.

The minister emphasized that the publication distorted the events, attempting to shift responsibility onto Russia and derail US President Donald Trump from the proposed path to lasting peace.

In his statements, Lavrov went further, claiming that European leaders are supposedly delaying the ceasefire process and contributing to the continuation of the war in Ukraine, while the BBC faked a video of Trump’s speech.

Such claims appear to be yet another set of loud statements unsupported by action, which, from a Ukrainian perspective, comes across as a cynical attempt to create the appearance of diplomatic activity.

Absurd 'readiness'

From the perspective of Ukraine and international observers, Lavrov’s repeated statements about readiness for a summit have become a ritual: Moscow demonstrates activity, but no real steps are taken. International media continue to ignore such statements, leaving them without resonance.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán reported that preparations for a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin in Budapest are ongoing; however, the summit was postponed due to Russia’s refusal to immediately cease fire against Ukraine, as confirmed by multiple media outlets.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that talks about peace in Ukraine concern only the situation within the country and noted that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán cannot make a constructive or balanced contribution to resolving the conflict.
