European Commission to recommend commencing Ukraine's accession talks - Bloomberg
The European Commission is likely to recommend that EU member states begin formal negotiations on Ukraine's accession after all seven conditions are met, Bloomberg reports.
As the agency reports, the European Commission will meet on Tuesday to make a final decision on whether to recommend the official start of negotiations on Ukraine's membership.
It is expected that the result will be positive for Kyiv but with additional conditions.
According to Bloomberg, the European Commission is likely to recommend that member states begin formal negotiations with Ukraine after it completes reforms and implements steps on minority legislation, anti-corruption, de-oligarchization, and lobbying.
However, the final wording of the European Commission's opinion has not yet been approved.
Accession of Ukraine to the EU
Last year, Ukraine acquired the status of a candidate for joining the EU. But to become a member of the EU, it is necessary to fulfill 7 conditions. According to Reuters, Ukraine has fulfilled two of the seven conditions necessary for the start of negotiations on joining the EU.
Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olha Stefanyshina said that the fulfillment of the two conditions is a very good result. She reminded that some countries of the Western Balkans have been making progress for years, where we are, and the implementation of one recommendation is a national holiday."
It should be noted that on November 8, the European Commission should publish a report on the progress of candidates for EU accession with a recommendation to start negotiations on Ukraine's accession.
According to the mass media, the European Commission considers that four of the seven criteria for the start of negotiations for Ukraine's accession to the EU have been fully met.
