Europe to impose sanctions on Russia if Putin avoids peace talks – Telegraph

European leaders may impose sanctions against Russia. This will happen if Vladimir Putin refuses to participate in a trilateral meeting with the leaders of Ukraine and the US, according to The Telegraph.
A source told the agency that the United Kingdom and the EU are preparing new sanctions against Russia.
"If Putin was to delay, prevaricate, or refuse to talk that would provide another impetus for sanctions," said a source in the British government.
Also, according to sources, Putin agreed to meet with US President Donald Trump in Alaska only after the American leader imposed sanctions on India for continuing to buy Russian oil.
Meeting between Zelenskyy and Putin
As is known, on August 15, a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russia's Vladimir Putin took place in Alaska. A few days later, on August 18, Trump met with Volodymyr Zelenskyy and European leaders at the White House.
After the talks, the US President called Putin to arrange a meeting with Zelenskyy. Russia insists on holding a bilateral meeting first, followed by a trilateral meeting with Trump.
Switzerland has already announced its readiness to host the summit. Austria has also announced that it is ready to host talks between Zelenskyy and Putin.
However, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz doubts that Putin will dare to meet with Zelenskyy.
