Brussels plans to speed up Moldova's accession process as much as possible. The specific date for the start of official negotiations has not yet been announced, but the issue is expected to be resolved very quickly, according to Reuters.

At a meeting with Moldovan President Maia Sandu, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Kaja Kallas noted that after the change of leadership in some European countries, Chisinau finds itself in favorable conditions for joining the EU.

Brussels wants to seize this moment immediately. Here is what Kallas stated:

"We haven't set that date, but it's clear that we need to move fast."

Speed matters because so far no EU member state opposes Moldova's membership, but governments can change.

"So that's why I also think that we should move ‌while nobody is against Moldova, because you never know when there comes a government that might have, you know, a bilateral issue," Kallas added.

Furthermore, the head of European diplomacy noted the country's progress in implementing reforms. Security issues were also discussed. The frozen conflict in unrecognized Transnistria should not stand in the way of integration.

What is known about Ukraine's EU accession

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, after Viktor Orbán's defeat in Hungary, has sharply changed his position on Ukraine's EU accession. Fico now supports Ukraine's entry into the EU, and Slovakia is ready to facilitate this process.

Meanwhile, President Zelenskyy announced that Ukraine is already prepared to open all six negotiation clusters with the EU. The Ukrainian leader discussed Ukraine's European integration with European Council President António Costa.

In Brussels itself, they emphasized the importance of meeting all necessary conditions for full membership. In particular, European Commissioner Marta Kos outlined the list of key requirements currently facing the Ukrainian authorities.
