EU, Ukraine to sign deal launching tribunal on Russian aggression

On Friday, May 9, in Lviv, foreign ministers of dozens of countries, as well as leaders of Ukraine and the Council of Europe, will sign documents to establish a special tribunal to investigate the crime of aggression against Ukraine, Radio Liberty reports.
The documents relate to the completion of preparatory work on the legal framework for the functioning of the tribunal, which will administer justice by bringing to justice those responsible for the crime of aggression against Ukraine.
The Joint Statement of the Foreign Ministers of the participating countries notes the importance of international support for the establishment of the tribunal and calls on other states and international organizations to actively support this initiative.
One of the key aspects of the document is a call for increased international support for the Special Tribunal.
The Lviv Statement emphasizes the need to engage international partners for the effective implementation of justice and to ensure that those responsible for aggression against Ukraine are punished.
Special tribunal for Russia
A special tribunal for Russia's Vladimir Putin and his associates was supposed to be established by the end of 2024. However, this did not happen.
Ambassador-at-Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Anton Korynevych, named the most promising format for the creation of the tribunal.
At the same time, Council of Europe Secretary General Alain Berset announced significant progress in the creation of a special tribunal for Russia.
