The European Union will resume its mission to monitor the Rafah crossing point on the border between the Gaza Strip and Egypt, this was announced by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas, according to The Guardian.

Kallas welcomed Hamas’ release of seven Israeli hostages, emphasizing the role of US President Donald Trump in this "crucial milestone towards peace."

"Today marks a rare moment of hope in the Middle East. The release of hostages is a major success for diplomacy and a crucial milestone toward peace. President Trump made this breakthrough possible. Securing peace in Gaza will be extraordinarily complex," she said.

According to Kallas, strong international support is necessary for the success of a peace plan.

"The EU stands ready to do its part. On Wednesday, it will restart a civilian mission to monitor the border crossing between Gaza and Egypt. This mission can play an important role in supporting the ceasefire," the EU High Representative emphasized.

Trump announces end of war in Gaza

On Monday, October 13, US President Donald Trump arrived in Israel. On his way to the Middle East, he announced the "end of the war" in Gaza.

Also today, Hamas released 13 Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners. The hostages, who had remained in the Gaza Strip for more than two years, have already been handed over to representatives of the Red Cross.

Before the exchange, Hamas published a list of 20 hostages, which matches the Israeli data.

In addition, an international summit will take place in Egypt today, where world leaders will discuss ways to achieve peace in the Middle East and end the conflict in the Gaza Strip.
