EU to impose 19th package of sanctions against Russia this week

EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas announced that the European Union will adopt its 19th package of anti-Russian sanctions this week, according to the official EU website.
"This week, we aim to adopt a major new sanctions package on Russia. Every euro we deny Russia is one it can't use on war," Kallas emphasized.
According to her, during the meeting on October 20, EU ministers said that work on the next sanctions package should begin immediately after the 19th one. She added that this will not be the final round of sanctions.
Anti-Russian sanctions
The European Commission proposed the 19th package of anti-Russian sanctions for discussion among EU member states on September 19. It includes, in particular, a full ban on Russian gas imports to the EU by January 1, 2027.
The 19th package is expected to introduce tougher restrictions targeting three key sectors for the Kremlin — energy, financial services, and trade.
It is understood in the EU that pro-Russian leaders of Hungary and Slovakia may attempt to block the new measures. To prevent this, the European Commission proposed a new voting mechanism that would make it impossible for Budapest and Bratislava to veto the sanctions.
Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported that Austria agreed to support the new EU sanctions package against Russia, removing a key obstacle to the vote expected later this week.
