EU to discuss sanctions against Russian hybrid threats for first time - Reuters
EU ambassadors are set to discuss sanctions against Russia's hybrid threats, including election interference, cyberattacks, and economic sabotage, Reuters reports.
Information regarding the plans of EU ambassadors to discuss new sanctions against Russia was revealed to the news agency by unnamed diplomats.
A list of 16 individuals and 3 entities could be approved under a new sanctions regime, which was agreed upon in October in response to the increasing number of such attacks in the 27 member countries of the bloc.
New sanctions regime
On October 8, the EU Council approved a new sanctions regime against Russia's hybrid threats.
These measures were approved to combat sabotage of critical infrastructure, the spread of disinformation, and cyberattacks.
The new sanctions regime includes asset freezes and a ban on cooperation with EU citizens and companies.
Simultaneously, EU ambassadors continue to discuss the 15th sanctions package against Russia. This package will primarily target Russia's shadow fleet.
With the help of this shadow fleet, Russia retains the ability to sell its oil bypassing the price cap imposed by Western countries.
