EU to ask India for help in enforcing sanctions against Russia – Bloomberg

The EU will ask India for help in enforcing sanctions against Russia. This issue will be discussed by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Bloomberg informs.
According to the news agency, von der Leyen will discuss sanctions with Modi during their meeting this week in New Delhi.
"The EU is keen to intensify the enforcement of sanctions on Russia, said the official, adding that Russia’s war in Ukraine threatens India as much as Europe," Bloomberg quotes an unnamed EU official.
According to the official, India could play a key role in ending the war in Ukraine and ensuring lasting peace.
Bloomberg notes that India’s Ministry of External Affairs has not yet commented on the situation. As is known, the South Asian country adheres only to sanctions imposed by the United Nations.
It is worth noting that India has not condemned Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Instead, the Indian authorities call for dialogue and diplomacy to end the war. During a recent meeting between Modi and Donald Trump at the White House, the Indian prime minister stated that his country stands for peace in the Russia-Ukraine war.
Relations between India and Ukraine
In August last year, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid an official visit to Ukraine. During his visit, four cooperation agreements were signed between India and Ukraine.
At the same time, India continues to maintain relations with both Ukraine and Russia. It has not taken a firm stance on Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukrainian territory.
According to Bloomberg, India is currently the second-largest supplier of prohibited technologies to Russia after China, raising concerns amid the ongoing war in Ukraine.
