EU ready to provide security guarantees for Ukraine – European Parliament President

The European Union continues to reinforce its support for Ukraine. In the RBC-Ukraine interview, European Parliament President Roberta Metsola stated that Europe is ready to provide Ukraine with security guarantees.
Roberta Metsola stated that Europe is ready to provide Ukraine with the necessary security guarantees, even if the United States cannot do the same.
She emphasized that the EU has already mobilized €48.5 billion in military aid and continues strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities.
According to her, a key priority is enhancing the EU’s defense capabilities, particularly through integrating the armed forces of all 27 EU member states for better coordination and increased efficiency.
So far, the EU has already delivered over one million rounds of ammunition, trained 75,000 Ukrainian soldiers, and considered using profits from frozen Russian assets to support Ukraine.
Metsola stressed that the situation requires constant reassessment, and the EU is prepared to expand security guarantees.
She emphasized that Europe must act decisively, strengthening its defense cooperation with Ukraine.
"So we have been delivering, but we must, of course, assess and be ready to step in with all the necessary security guarantees to ensure lasting peace," she said.
European officials are preparing a new major financial package for Ukraine’s defense and support.
However, the announcement of the expenditures has been postponed until after the German elections on February 23, to avoid political disputes before the vote.
