EU must find solution for aid to Ukraine, European Parliament head
The European Union needs to find a solution regarding the extension of financial support for Ukraine at an extraordinary summit of the EU Council, says the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola.
"Europe must continue to show unity and solidarity, and that's what we aim for. This means that on February 1, at the extraordinary European Council, we must find a solution at the EU level to extend financial support," she said.
Metsola emphasized that Ukraine urgently needs support.
"With the help of this instrument for Ukraine, we invest in the recovery, reconstruction, and modernization of the country. And I, as before, hope and am confident that a decision can be found," she added.
50 billion euros for Ukraine
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban refuses to provide military assistance to Ukraine following the start of Russia's full-scale invasion. He also continues to maintain partnership relations with Moscow, despite its aggression.
Hungary has repeatedly used its veto power when the EU considered issues related to aid for Ukraine.
In particular, Orban recently blocked an initiative that proposed allocating 50 billion euros to Ukraine.
However, The Financial Times reported, citing sources, that the European Commission is willing to compromise on some of Hungary's demands to allocate 50 billion euros to Ukraine.
