EU states have not yet agreed on 13th package of sanctions against Russia, says Borrell
The member states of the European Union have not yet reached an agreement on the introduction of the 13th package of anti-Russian sanctions, says the head of diplomacy of the European Union, Josep Borrell, at a press conference with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland, Radoslaw Sikorski.
However, Borrell noted that the 13th package of sanctions against Russia is already being prepared. According to him, it will concern "many people and institutions, companies from different countries that participate in the circumvention of sanctions."
"There is no final agreement between the member countries (regarding the sanctions - ed.) yet," he emphasized.
The head of EU diplomacy also stated that the main purpose of the sanctions package against the Russian Federation is to punish those responsible for the war against Ukraine and for economic schemes that allow Russia to "feed its military machine".
13th package of sanctions
In January it became known that the European Union started preparing the 13th package of anti-Russian sanctions. Such a package is planned to be approved before the second anniversary of the full-scale invasion of Russian troops into Ukraine.
According to Reuters, the package of sanctions will not contain new restrictions on the import of Russian goods.
At the same time, the European Commission is only beginning to discuss the restrictions that will be included in the package.
