EU extends anti-Russia sanctions for one year over 'hybrid actions'

The European Union has extended sanctions against Russia over hybrid threats for another year, until October 9, 2026, according to the EU Council.
"The Council today decided to prolong individual restrictive measures against those responsible for Russia’s destabilising actions abroad by one year, until 9 October 2026," the statement reads.
The EU noted that the restrictions are being extended in connection with Russia’s hybrid activities, including the manipulation of foreign information against the EU, its member states, and partners.
In total, the restrictive measures imposed in relation to Russia’s destabilizing activities currently apply to 47 individuals and 15 legal entities.
The assets of these persons are subject to freezing, and EU citizens and companies are prohibited from making funds, financial assets, or economic resources available to them. The individuals are also subject to a travel ban and transit ban through EU territory.

EU sanctions against Russia
The European Union plans to introduce stricter restrictions on Russia, targeting three key areas.
On September 19, the European Commission submitted the 19th sanctions package against Vladimir Putin’s regime for discussion among EU member states.
The new measures, in particular, include a complete ban on Russian gas imports to European countries by January 1, 2027.
