EU delivers promised 1 million shells to Ukraine – Borrell
The European Union has delivered the promised one million munitions to Ukraine. The EU will also train several tens of thousands more Ukrainian soldiers, stated High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell.
"We have also just met our pledge to provide Ukraine with 1 million rounds of ammunition, and by the end of winter, we will have trained 75,000 Ukrainian soldiers," he said.
According to him, the European Union has so far provided Ukraine with weapons worth €45 billion. However, he believes the current level of assistance remains insufficient to shift the battlefield situation in Ukraine's favor.
"We give Ukraine just enough to hold, and sometimes even less, while Russia has put its entire economy on a wartime footing and counts with the unconditional backing of North Korea and Iran," Borrel added.
Czech initiative
This year, Czechia secured a significant number of shells for Ukraine from non-EU countries. However, their purchase required funding from international partners.
In June, the arrival of the first batch of shells in Ukraine was announced.
Later, Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala stated that Ukraine would receive approximately 500,000 more munitions by the end of 2024 as part of the initiative.
