European Union countries have expressed support for US initiatives aimed at establishing a just peace between Ukraine and Russia, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said.

"EU Foreign Ministers today expressed support for US steps that will lead to a just peace," Kallas emphasized.

She noted that the EU is already working on strengthening sanctions against Russia, increasing support for Ukraine, meeting Ukraine's budgetary needs, and advancing its EU accession process.

"Meanwhile, we work on more sanctions against Russia, more military support for Ukraine and more support for Ukraine's budgetary needs and accession process to join the EU," the EU foreign policy chief added.

Trump's plans

US President Donald Trump said that on Friday, August 15, he will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska.

According to Trump, he wants to secure a ceasefire with Ukraine from Putin.

At the same time, the American leader wants to return to Ukraine part of the territories currently occupied by Russia. Trump is confident that the agreement should involve a territorial exchange.

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that no Ukrainian territories will be given to Russia, as this would violate the Constitution.
