Later this month, the European Union and Canada will announce a major new partnership. It will involve not only joint efforts to counter geopolitical risks but also increased support for Ukraine, Politico reports.
According to journalists, cooperation between Brussels and Ottawa will cover a range of areas, from removing digital trade barriers to joint assistance for Ukraine.
A draft joint statement obtained by the media says the world is currently facing unprecedented challenges in geopolitics, trade, energy, technology, climate and resources. That is why the EU and Canada have decided to join forces.
During the summit in Montreal, Brussels and Ottawa intend to announce plans to accelerate investment in the extraction of critical minerals.
The sides also want to strengthen supply chains and improve the security of supplies, including by building up stocks of strategic resources. This is intended to help mitigate "market fluctuations and geopolitical impacts."
"We will align strategies and standards, connect industries, and focus our ambitions on sectors with greatest returns for our peoples," the draft statement says.
How exactly the EU and Canada plan to jointly boost support for Ukraine remains undisclosed.
Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported that Ukraine and Canada have signed a 100-year partnership declaration.
It was also reported that Kyiv and Ottawa would jointly begin producing drones for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
