EU ambassadors approve 13th package of sanctions against Russia
The European Union has approved a new package of sanctions against Russia, according to Radio Liberty correspondent Rikard Jozwiak.
"EU ambassadors have just given green light to the EU’s 13th Russian sanctions package. Should be published just before the 24 Feb anniversary," he said.
According to Reuters sources in the EU, the new package covers about 200 legal entities and individuals but does not include new sectoral measures.
The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, welcomed the ambassadors' agreement on the 13th package of sanctions against Russia.
"I welcome the agreement on our 13th sanctions package against Russia. We must keep degrading Putin's war machine. With 2000 listings in total, we keep the pressure high on the Kremlin. We are also further cutting Russia’s access to drones," she wrote on X.
New sanctions package against Russia
Back in January, the European Union began discussing the introduction of the 13th package of anti-Russian sanctions. Restrictions are intended to be approved by the second anniversary of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
EU ambassadors have tried several times to agree on new measures against Russia, but have not succeeded. According to the Financial Times, the delay was caused by Hungary's blockade.
Budapest allegedly did not want Chinese companies to be included in the sanctions lists.
At the same time, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto stated that Budapest would not block the new package of European Union sanctions against Russia, as there are no longer any reasons.
