Hungary will stop blocking the European Union's new sanctions package against Russia, as there is no longer any reason to do so, says the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary Peter Szijarto.

"Hungary will not block the package of sanctions against Russia, because at the preparation stage it was possible to remove all points that conflict with Hungarian interests," said the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

He also noted that the anniversary of the full-scale invasion of the Russian invaders into Ukraine "should be an occasion" to talk about a ceasefire and peace talks.

What preceded

Back in January, the European Union began discussing the introduction of the 13th package of anti-Russian sanctions.

They want to approve the restrictions by the second anniversary of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

The ambassadors of the EU countries tried several times to agree on new measures against Russia, but it never worked out. As the Financial Times wrote, the reason was Hungarian blocking. Budapest allegedly did not want Chinese companies to be included in the sanctions lists.
