EU allocates another €150 million to Ukraine, including funding for school meals
The European Union (EU) has allocated €150 million ($156.29 million) to Ukraine, with part of the funds aimed at providing free school meals for children in grades 1–4, Denys Shmyhal, Prime Minister of Ukraine, reports.
According to Denys Shmyhal, this is the second tranche under the EU's agreement on rapid recovery support, totaling €300 million ($312.58 million).
The funds will be used for:
- Providing free meals for children in grades 1–4;
- Restoring infrastructure damaged by war;
- Supporting agricultural production, ensuring uninterrupted supply.
EU aid to Ukraine
In February of this year, the European Parliament approved the regulations of the Ukraine Facility program. According to it, the €50 billion ($52.13 billion) program of support for Ukraine from the EU will be valid from 2024 to 2027.
Last week, Kyiv received a tranche of €4.1 billion ($4.27 billion) under the aforementioned program. The total amount of assistance in 2024 reached €16.1 billion ($16.78 billion).
According to the Head of the National Bank of Ukraine, Andriy Pyshnyy, in December, Ukraine expects to receive about $8.5 billion of international assistance.
