Ukraine's integration into the European Union will be the strongest guarantee of security, as peace and European integration have always gone hand in hand, according to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

According to the President of the European Commission, the EU and Ukraine are currently working to open the first cluster of accession negotiations. In particular, it is planned to open all the clusters within the current year.

"Ukraine joining our Union is the greatest guarantee of a just and lasting peace. In our history, peace and European integration have always gone hand in hand. So let us bring Ukraine inside our Union. Let us walk the path of peace together," she added.

Ukraine's accession to EU

Today, Ukraine is actively moving towards membership in the European Union. After gaining candidate status in 2022 and officially starting negotiations in 2024, the country has focused on adapting its legislation to EU norms.

Currently, Kyiv plans to open all six negotiation clusters by the end of 2025. At the same time, as President Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted, Ukraine's path to the EU is being blocked by some European leaders who want better seats on Red Square.

Meanwhile, the EU Ambassador to Ukraine, Katarína Mathernová, answered when Ukraine will be able to become a member of the union.
