Estonian MoD reveals timeline for EU delivery of 1 million rounds to Ukraine
The transfer of the promised one million rounds for Ukraine from European Union countries is once again being delayed. Now, they aim to complete the delivery by the end of 2024, reports the Minister of Defense of Estonia, Hanno Pevkur, on X.
He mentions that defense ministers of EU countries have agreed to fulfill their promise regarding the supply of 1 million rounds for Ukrainian defenders.
"Over 0,5M rounds will be reached by the end of March," emphasizes Pevkur.
The Minister of Defense has clarified that the production capacity of the EU will increase to 1.5 million units of ammunition by the end of 2024.
A million rounds for Ukraine
In March 2023, EU countries agreed to transfer a million rounds to Ukraine. Initially, they wanted to complete the delivery by the end of 2023, and later by March 2024.
However, the transfer within the specified timeframe will not take place as there is a lack of production capacity.
Ukraine's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dmytro Kuleba, has already stated that if Ukraine does not receive the necessary quantity of artillery ammunition from one source, efforts will be made to ensure the supply from other sources.
It is worth noting that artillery rounds are one of the key needs for Ukrainian defenders. More details on this can be found in RBC-Ukraine's material.
