Estonia announces new aid package for Ukraine: Details revealed
Estonia announces new aid package for Ukraine. Tallinn is supporting Kyiv with ammunition and other equipment, informs the Estonian Ministry of Defence.
The Estonian government has approved the proposal by Defence Minister Hanno Pevkur to send another military aid package to Ukraine, which this time includes both equipment and ammunition.
"Soon, it will be 1,000 days since Ukraine has managed to defend its freedom from an overwhelming aggressor. Ukraine continues to need support from Estonia and the free world to protect itself. This aid package is made up from the reserves of our defence forces, taking into account Ukraine's needs while ensuring that Estonia's own defence capabilities are not affected," said Pevkur.
What’s included in the aid package?
The latest package includes naval uniforms, surveillance equipment, sights, ballistic protection gear, and various types of ammunition.
"This package is not the last one, and soon we will open an annual support competition for Estonian companies, which will allow Ukraine to receive products from Estonia's defence industry. In addition to supporting Ukraine, this also helps Estonia's own economy and security," the minister added.
Estonia's support for Ukraine
Estonia has provided over €500 million in military aid to Ukraine, or 1.4% of its GDP, ranking among the top countries globally for the amount of assistance provided relative to GDP.
Previously, Estonia has supplied Ukraine with, for example, Javelin anti-tank missiles, howitzers, artillery, anti-tank mines, grenade launchers, mortars, vehicles, communication equipment, field hospitals (in cooperation with Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, and Iceland), medical supplies, personal protective equipment (helmets, etc.), and dry food packages.
Since the start of the full-scale war in Ukraine, Estonia has also organized training for more than 1,500 Ukrainian defenders, both in Estonia and abroad.
In 2023, under the initiative and leadership of Estonia and Luxembourg, an IT coalition was established to support the creation of secure ICT infrastructure, compliant with NATO standards, for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
It’s also worth noting that on November 11, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Estonian Defence Minister Hanno Pevkur met in Kyiv to discuss the new military aid package.
