Estonia announces new military aid package for Ukraine
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur held a meeting in Kyiv, where they discussed a new military aid package, according to Pevkur and Zelenskyy.
"Met with President Zelenkyy and confirmed our continued military support to Ukraine. On my way to his office signed electronically also the new military aid package of clothing, small arms etc. New packages coming already next year (0,25% of Estonian GDP)," the Estonian Defense Minister emphasized.
In turn, Zelenskyy said that during the meeting he thanked Pevkur for the new military aid package and for the decision to allocate 0.25% of Estonia’s GDP annually to support Ukraine.
He also reminded that recently a Shahed drone hit the building where the Estonian ambassador to Ukraine resides, emphasizing the need to increase pressure on Russia to limit its military production.
“We specifically discussed the possibility of the Estonian side to finance the production of long-range drones in Ukraine, as well as our urgent defense needs and support for the outfitting of new brigades,” Zelenskyy added.
Estonian aid to Ukraine
Earlier this year, then-Prime Minister of Estonia, Kaja Kallas, assured that her country would allocate 0.25% of its GDP to Ukraine's defense. This aid is planned to continue over the next four years.
At that time, Estonia had already provided Ukraine with military assistance worth 500 million euros since the start of the full-scale war.
