Türkiye is ready to host Ukraine–Russia talks again. They can be organized in Istanbul, states Burhanettin Duran, Head of the Communications Department under the President of Türkiye.
The President of Türkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, participated in the Coalition of the Willing meeting.
He assured that Türkiye will continue its diplomatic efforts aimed at facilitating direct contacts between Ukraine and Russia to achieve a fair and lasting peace.
"The President also emphasized that direct talks between the parties could take place in Istanbul, and Türkiye is in contact with the Ukrainian and Russian sides to organize this process," Duran noted.
At the same time, the meeting proposed the idea that a ceasefire regarding energy and port infrastructure between Ukraine and Russia could create favorable conditions for negotiations on a peace agreement between the parties.
Erdoğan’s proposal for talks
Last week, during a press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the President of Türkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, stated that the Istanbul format could be revived with a broader scope.
According to him, Ukraine–Russia talks need to be resumed to address issues that have reached a critical stage.
At the same time, there is still no sign of Russia’s readiness to end the war. In particular, on the night of November 25, Russian forces carried out a massive strike across Ukraine.
As Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted, such an attack demonstrates that the war remains a priority for Russia.
