In Myanmar, the death toll from a powerful earthquake has exceeded 2,700 people, with another 400 reported missing, according to BBC.

According to the Commander-in-Chief of Myanmar’s Armed Forces, Min Aung Hlaing, the earthquake claimed 2,719 lives.

He also clarified that at least 4,521 people were injured, while 400 remain missing.

He further suggested that the death toll could exceed 3,000.

Powerful earthquake in Myanmar

It should be recalled that a 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar on March 28, causing significant damage in one of the world's poorest countries. The epicenter was near Mandalay, Myanmar’s second-largest city.

Reports indicate that the earthquake resulted in widespread destruction in Myanmar and other countries. Initially, the U.S. Geological Survey estimated that the death toll could exceed 1,000 people.

On March 30, Myanmar experienced another earthquake with a magnitude of 5.1. The U.S. Geological Survey reported that the 5.1-magnitude aftershock occurred in Mattar, 28 kilometers northwest of Mandalay.
